Two Paths Became One
Mt. Carmel Holiness Church - 1950
In early 1950 local members of the community, many of which from the Coharie Indian Tribe, gathered in a house located near the current property on 301 highway to have church. Reverend Corbett Maynard led this developing congregation at this time under the name of Mt. Carmel Holiness Church. 6 months later land was purchased for the future construction of a church building.
With the excitement of land now belonging to the church, members purchased an army tent to host services while fundraising began. Through fundraising efforts such as bake sales, a traveling singing group called the "Mt. Carmel Quartet", and support from the Holiness Conference the funds were raised! Under the leadership of Rev. G. A. Carter construction began in early 1952. |
The cinderblock building included a main sanctuary with two small wings on either side with a wood burning furnace to provide heat during the winter months. There was an outhouse used as a restroom until the foyer and current restrooms were added to the front of the building. As the congregation grew, a brick façade was added to the building as well as a children's wing which included a small office space and 2 children's classrooms.
In 1960 Reverend Millard Maynor approached the congregation about joining the Church of God denomination (Cleveland, TN). With agreement among the congregation, they officially became "Mt. Carmel Church of God".

Mt. Carmel Church of God continued on until two paths became one!
Redemption Outreach Center (ROC) - 2013
The ROC held its first official gathering on November 3, 2013 in a school gymnasium under the leadership of Rev. Richard and Amy Beasley. Not long after, on February 2, 2014 gatherings were held in a warehouse on Wilson Avenue in the city of Dunn. The new and growing congregation were in need of additional space and was quickly approaching a lease renewal at the end of February 2015.

In early 2015, Eastern North Carolina's Administrative Bishop Wayne Brewer approached the Mt. Carmel COG congregation about merging with this new and growing congregation meeting just 1.5 miles away. After a unanimous vote, the two congregations merged into the ROC Church (Redemption Outreach Center) - Church of God. Thus two paths became one!
Today the church is blessed to own 3 acres along US-301 with a main sanctuary, fellowship hall, and parsonage. The history of the church is honored while a bright future lies ahead for the ROC family! |
We are passionate about sustainable methods of ministry that makes BIG impacts. We strive to be the church our community NEEDS.
This means, caring for the spiritual needs of the community as well as the physical. "Outreach" is more than fun events and prizes to give away (although we love these), it's a way of serving the community in whatever manner fulfills the community's need at that time. Whether it be through supporting local food pantry's to providing gifts to low income families during the holidays. Our vision is to be a CENTER of such outreach meaning, we will collaborate and support with other organizations where able and also equip local congregants in order to LAUNCH servants into the community.
Ready to run with us in pursuit of this vision!?
